An explosion of irony, abundance, and the illusion of wealth.

In this bold and playful composition, coins rain down endlessly from above—falling through space like a surreal blessing. Beneath them, two identical, almost cartoon-like figures dance with delight, seemingly celebrating the endless shower of money.

But above them, a sharp red line cuts through the scene—a volatile graph, rising and falling unpredictably. It introduces tension into what first appears to be a joyful moment.

In true Tange style, simplicity reveals complexity. The figures are naïve, almost childlike, while the symbolism is anything but. The contrast between playful imagery and economic tension creates a layered narrative.

There is a striking duality:
Abundance and instability.
Joy and illusion.
Control and chaos.

“Pennies from Heaven” questions the nature of wealth—what it means, how we perceive it, and how fragile it truly is. The falling coins suggest endless opportunity, yet the unstable line above tells another story.

Is it a blessing… or a warning?

Jacques Tange captures here a world where humor meets critique—where the absurd reflects reality.
